![]() ![]() With this in mind, the report will be divided into two parts which, although closely linked, can be read independently by the hurried reader. This will be linked to the other principles that make it possible to define a commons-based production model, alternative to that of capitalist platforms: governance rules financing models conception of technologies legal models of ownership of the means of production (in particular the management of algorithms and data). Building on the analysis undertaken in the D2.2, it will give particular attention to the forms of organisation of ‘work’. This deliverable aims at characterizing alternative production models based on two schools of thought: the logic of the knowledge commons, and platform cooperatives. To tackle these issues, we offer a vision that systematizes the main approaches within the theory of the firm, and we develop it in the context of the novelty of platform companies, providing clues to conceptually encompass some of the fundamental transformations observed in organizational forms during the last decades. The question is focused on understanding the originality of their business models, and how this originality both enables and expresses the organizational form that supports them, allowing to develop and exploit work in an unprecedented way. ![]() ![]() With the aim of providing insight in regard to the relationship between the recent transformations in the organization of the firm, and the more general dynamics of capitalist development, we perform a compared case study of two companies (Google and Amazon) in order to understand how both, with very different strategies and organizational practices, have succeeded to become world-class innovative companies, creating entire business models that did not exist 20 years ago. ![]()
